Getting Started: Item & Package Terminology

Items & Packages are both essential in their own way when using the Greater Giving Online software. The two are very similar to one another, but they serve two entirely different purposes. This article is designed to give you an overview of both Items and Packages and how they will be used in your Greater Giving Online software.

Items:
In their simplest form, Items are physical donations from Supporters to your Organization for the purpose of selling at an auction. To this end, each Item has fields such as Value, Thanked Donor, Procurement Status, Date Received, and Location. This is because each Item that is entered into your software is done by a Supporter (and therefore a Donor) and those fields will help track procurement goals as well as provide the Donor with a receipt pending the end of your event.

Packages:
Packages are used in your Greater Giving Online software to sell to your Supporters. They may or may not include Items, depending on the type of Package they are. To this end, Packages have fields that are dependent on the type of Package they are.

  • Admission: Will not have Items present. Will have Admissions Included (how many tickets come with this purchase) as well as Maximum Online Sales (for limiting sales done through your website).
  • Auction: Most commonly will have one or more Item(s) in the Package. Can be sold once, or Multiple Sale. Has Bid Calculations based off the Value of the Items in the Package.
  • Donation: Will not have Items present. If a Price is specified, it will be sold with a quantity. If no Price is specified, it will prompt the Supporter to enter one.
  • Sponsorship: Will not have Items present. Will have Sponsorship Level and Admissions Included, as well as Maximum Online Sales.
