Getting Started: Table & Group Terminology

Tables and Groups are both methods of grouping Supporters together. Although they are often used in conjunction with another, they can also be used independently as well. Greater Giving recommends using Tables if you are having a physical, sit down event and want to track where each individual will be seated. Alternatively, Groups can be used to take normally dissimilar Supporters (such as multiple individuals with different last names) and put them together for easy searching, or most commonly seating. See below for more information regarding Tables and Groups.

Tables:

As mentioned above, Tables are mostly used for your physical sit down events. When setting up Tables in Greater Giving Online, you are given the option of determining the Table Number, Table Name, the Number of Seats, and lastly any applicable Notes about the Table. These can be created individually or in mass using our Table Generation Wizard. Once these Tables have been created, they can then have Bidder’s with allocated admissions assigned to them.

Groups:

Groups work together with Tables in that Greater Giving has provided a method of taking entire Groups and assigning them to a Table. However, the base purpose of a Group is to take Supporters with no relation to one another (not in a household together) and make them searchable in your View/Edit Supporters. This can provide an ancillary benefit to Groups even if you are not using our Tables feature.

Tips:

  • Bidders can be assigned to Groups and Tables individually or all at once. See our Tables and Groups article for more information.
  • If doing a Golf Event, you can further use Tables for assigning a Starting Hole, and Groups to designate Foursomes. See our article on Managing a Golf Event for more information.
