Online Bidding: Setting Up an Appeal Only Event

An Appeal Only Event is a specific type of event that will only be using Online Bidding to collect Cash Donations. This would be used in a case where you have a call to action, which showcases your cause and encourages people to donate via you Online Bidding Link. Below, we cover exactly how to set your Online Bidding Settings up to allow for an Appeal only Event.

Create an Online Bidding Section:

  1. From the Project Home, click Project Settings under the Project Tasks header.
  2. Locate and click the Item & Package Sections tab.
  3. Click the Add button. 
  4. Enter the name of the new Section. This title will not be visible to event guests.
  5. Change the Section Type to Silent. 
  6. Change the Online Bidding Type to Sell Online.
  7. Enter the Bidding Open Date & Time and the Bidding Close Date & Time. Use the calendar and the clock icon to select the time range that matches the desired appeal timeline. The event date you input on Project Settings will automatically be highlighted. To specify a more specific open time, simply enter the time within the box.


Create a Donation - Type Package:

  1. From the Project Home, click Add a New Package under the Packages header.
  2. Select Donation for the Package Type.
  3. For the Section, select the section defined earlier.
  4. Add additional details to package as desired.
  5. Click the Save button.

Enable the Donation Button:

  1. From the Project Home, click Online Bidding Settings under the Online Bidding header.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Under the Donations area check "Use Online Bidding to collect donations".
  4. Under "Package to use for donations from Online Bidding”, select the package created earlier.
  5. Under “Appeal-Only event” check the “Only allow donations (no bids)” checkbox.
  6. Under the Donation label area type the text you wish to display to the bidder on the donation button. Some options would include “Click Here to Donate”, “Donate Now”, “Special Appeal” or “Fund-A-Need”.
  7. In the “Suggested donation amounts” box, type the donation increments to appear on the guest Online Bidding site (This is optional.)
  8. They need to be comma separated values (e.g. 1000, 500, 250, 100). The cents are optional.
    • Guests will always have the option to enter a custom donation amount.
  9. Click the Save button.
